Which bones constitute the upper jaw?

The upper jaw is primarily formed by the maxillae, which are a pair of bones that meet in the center of the face to support the upper teeth and form a portion of the orbits surrounding the eyes. The maxillae also play a significant role in forming the roof of the mouth (hard palate) and provide structure and support to the midface area.

In contrast, the mandible is known as the lower jawbone, while the lacrimal and zygomatic bones contribute to different areas of the facial structure but do not form the upper jaw. The lacrimal bones are small and located in the eye socket, and the zygomatic bones, also known as the cheekbones, provide structure to the face but are not part of the upper jaw structure.
